I moved back to New York in March of 2020 the day before the lockdown. Right away, the city went still. The grocery stores were barren, the streets empty. The best way to get around was by my bike, so I rode between Harlem and Battery park; there wasn’t much else to do. There were blocks where I didn’t see another person, perhaps a car or dog walker, and the stillness was captivating. I set out to capture some of the neighborhoods I used to enjoy, usually filled with people, and found the empty streets awe inspiring.
